Thursday, April 6, 2006 The Spectrum Daily News A5 OBITUARIES Continued from A4 Margaret Jorgenson ST. GEORGE Margaret C. Jorgenson, age 91, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2006 in St. George. She was born in Paradise, Montana on July 18, 1914, to Elbert Celton and Hazel Maddiux Gates.

Margaret was born in Paradise and raised in Hot Springs, Montana. She moved to Santa Clara, UT, where she graduated from Dixie High School and attended Dixie Jr. College. Margaret moved back to Hot Springs to attend to her mother, who was ill. While living in Hot Springs she met and married William E.

Hurd. They moved to St. George where they started their family. They lived in St. George for three years then moved back to Montana, where she and her mother, Hazel, were in the restaurant business.

Margaret and William lived in Kellogg, Page, and Duthie, ID. While living in Wallace, ID, Margaret's husband, William passed away in 1963. Margaret later married Heber Jorgenson. They moved to Seattle Washington where they lived until October of 1991, they then moved to St. George, UT.

Margaret was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She enjoyed crocheting, handy work, music and flowers. Margaret loved family outings, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially the Canyonlands, Bryce and Zion. She was a fan of Lawrence Welk.

She was a strong woman and had firm convictions, she was also very loving and caring. Surviving family include her: husband, Heber Jorgenson, of St. George, children, Elizabeth (James) of Kirk, of Spokane, WA, Kathleen Irvine, of Las Vegas, NV, Jack (Vicki) Hurd, of Wallace, ID; stepchildren, Patricia Jorgenson, of Spokane, WA, Joseph Michael Jorgenson, of Kent, WA; 10 grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren; sister, Mildred Beadles, of Spokane, WA; half-brother, Kelly (Sharon) Gates, of St. George, UT; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Gates, of Santa Clara, UT, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her stepson, John Edward Jorgenson; stepmother, Faye Gates; half sister, Darlene Gates; and half brothers, Elbert Gates, and Don Gates.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 7, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at the St. George West Stake Center. Viewings will be held Thursday, April 6, 2006, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary and again Friday, from 11:30 a.m.

to 12:30 p.m. prior to services, at the Stake Center. Interment will be held in the Santa Clara Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St.

George, UT (435) 673-2454. Friends and family are invited to offer their condolences and view obituaries at www.spilsburymortuary.com. Harold Birdlebough Harold Birdlebough, D.D.S. passed away on March 20, 2006, in St. George, Utah.

He was born in Yakima, Washington on May 4, 1928 1 to Otis and Elizabeth Birdlebough. Harold grew up in Yakima and then moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. He left the UW to serve as a USN Dental Corpsman in Seattle, San Diego, and Guam. He married Margaret Powers of Seattle in June 1950. He returned to the U.S.

and graduated from Dental School. He established his dental practice in the Seattle area and continued until he retired. He married his second wife, Donna Mae Hassenfratz, on June 18, 1977, who has since passed on, June 27, 2004, in Mesquite, Nevada. He remarried on November 30, 2005, his third wife, Shirley Richmond. His hobbies included karaoke, sports fishing, camping, jewelry manufacturing and living life.

Dad was a man of TRUE grace and showed this to everyone that came into his life. He was our mentor and we never saw him get angry with anyone. He adored his cat, Sammie, and the eight birds he had. He was a fabulous singer and we will miss the bright smile he always had on his face. Dad we will ALL miss you so very much.

Harold's affiliations are as follows: Seattle-King County Dental Society, Snohomish County Dental Society, Washington Dental Society, General Academy of Dentistry, American Dental Society, US I Dental 1 Alumni, Delta Sigma Delta (national dental fraternity), SPEBQSA-Sno-King Chapter, Alpha Delta Phi (first VP of Seattle alumni and delegate to the 1968 Constitutional Convention), Lake City Elks, St. David Emmanuel Episcopal Church (junior and senior warden and choir member) Barber Shop Quartet Singer, Aqua Club of Kenmore, Republican Party, and Who's Who in th West. Harold is survived by: children from his first marriage, John (Sandra) Birdlebough, Ann (Mike) Conklin, Elizabeth (Carlos) Vidal, Bill (Renee) Birdlebough, Marcia (Ron, late husband) Whiteside. His grandchildren include Terri Hingey and son, John Joseph Hingey, Jennifer Birdlebough, Amy Rose Whiteside, Kelsey Whiteside and Travis Birdlebough. He is also survived by his first wife, Margaret Powers; his second wife, Donna Birdlebough's, children, Steve Hassenfratz and family; Keith Fontel and son Cory Fontel; and Nancy Hassenfratz; and his new wife, Shirley Richmond, and family; Pam (Dennis) Alsop, Bret (Ann Rene) Richmond and little Aubre who sang like an angel.

Harold also leaves behind his Aunt Mary Birdlebough and his cousins, Chuck (Elizabeth) Birdlebough, Mike (Sandy) Birdlebough, and Steve Birdlebough. Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. (NV time) at Desert Skies in Mesquite, Nevada. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, St. George, UT (435) 673-2454.

GEORGE Charles Joseph lacona, 93, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2006. He was born on November 1, 1912, in New York City, to Adelina Fradella and Calogero lacono. He married Mary Madelyn Fasco at the Church of St.

Patrick in Albany, New York, on September 4, 1943. They were married for 54 years. He is survived by his twin sisters: Millie Fasanello and Vera Boltz. Charlie and Mary have three loving children, son, CJ lacona and his wife Karin, daughters Leila Burns and her husband, Tom, and Carla M. lacona.

He has five grandchildren, Andy lacona and his wife Kelli, Tifny lacona, Amanda Burns, Allison Snyder and her husband, Jon, and Patrick Burns. He has three great-grandchildren, Kendyl, Kayden and Drew lacona. To his children and grandchildren he will always be known as Grumpy. Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers Frank and Mike and his sister Rose Caruana. Charlie served his country in WWII as a storekeeper with the US Navy.

He was stationed on the aircraft carrier the USS Hornet. After his military service, Charlie completed night school classes to earn his certification as an accountant. He worked for ABC Paramount Corporation for a career that spanned more than 50 years. Starting at age 16, he worked in the mailroom and brought the coffee cart to the steno pool. After completion of his accountancy courses, he became an auditor, working first in New York City and then moving to Salt Lake City in 1952, for Intermountain Theaters.

He was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia in 1971 and retired there as comptroller for ABC Southern Division. Charlie was an active volunteer with St. George Catholic Church, serving on many parish committees and working Tuesdays at the St. George Thrift Shop. He enjoyed many fishing trips with his son and grandson Andy to Sand Hollow.

He was a member of the Bloomington Country Club and golfed daily with "Charlie's Angels." Charlie's family would like to especially thank those who so lovingly cared for him at the Beehive Home in St. George. Their kindness is greatly appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family through the Metcalf website at www.metcalfmortuary.com. Dorothy Pauline Yoder IVINS Dorothy Pauline Yoder, 93, died April 3, 2006 in Ivins, Utah. She was born June 27, 1912 in Goshen, Indiana to John Miller and Gertie Alice Granger. She was the youngest of three sisters and one brother, all deceased. She lived part of her early life with her grandmother who was a Civil War Widow.

Dorothy's ancestors were Pennsylvania Dutch, so she always spoke Dutch. Even in school she spoke part English and Dutch, but she lived in an Amish settlement SO Dutch was very prevalent. Dorothy married Fred Yoder of Nappanee, Indiana in 1934. After becoming members of the LDS Church, their marriage was sealed in the Arizona Temple. Dorothy was an active member of the church and served in many positions.

She moved to Sacramento, CA in 1937 while her husband was in the Navy. During this time she worked for the unemployment department. Wanting to be in a smaller community, Dorothy and Fred moved to Cedar City, UT in 1958. They worked together in their jewelry store. In 1962, Cedar City had the worst fire in it's history which destroyed six downtown businesses, including theirs.

They relocated and after a few years retired and moved to St. George, UT. Dorothy is survived by two grandsons: Gerald of Layton, UT and Kenneth of Oakland, CA and one great grandson of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred and her son, Burnell. Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m.

Condolences may be sent to the family through the mortuary's website at www.metcalfmortuary.com LaRue Leavitt Higbee CEDAR CITY LaRue Leavitt Higbee, 91, passed away at home on April 3, 2006. She was born March 3, 1915 in Santa Clara, UT to Lorenzo Calvin and Susetta Hafen Leavitt, the eighth of ten children. On July 3, 1938 she married Clyde Franklin Higbee.

LaRue graduated from Dixie College, then moved to Cedar City in 1936. After working for Utah Power, First Security Bank, and Columbia Iron Mines, she returned to college and obtained her bachelors degree in 1965. She was Reference Librarian at SUSC until her retirement in 1980. LaRue loved to play bridge, travel, watch the Jazz, quilt, knit, crochet and spend time with her family. She attended water aerobics three times a week until becoming ill in February.

For many years she was a hostess for the Utah Shakespearean Festival. She was active in the LDS church, and as a young mother served as PTA president on both the school and district level. LaRue and her sisters maintained a close relationship throughout their lives, keeping in touch by phone and getting together at every opportunity. Her happy and positive outlook on life made her a constant source of love and encouragement. She was our strength and anchor and will deeply missed by her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and daughter, David (Carolyn) Higbee and Carol (Don) Carter, daughter-inlaw Judy Higbee, all of Cedar City; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Vivian Palmer, Jean Morris, and Emma Willis. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Roger, parents, four sisters, two brothers. We wish to express our appreciation to Hospice Alliance for their loving care. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 8, 2006 at 11:00 at the Cedar 2nd and 8th Chapel. Visitation will be on April 7, 2006 from 6:00 p.m.
