India With only the clothes on their backs, hundreds of thousands of Indians left homeless by a devastating cyclone huddled in tent camps Friday as rescuers searched for bodies, brought in relief supplies and sought to prevent a cholera outbreak. The death toll from Wednesday's cyclone, which destroyed homes, crops and livestock in one of India's most fertile regions, exceeded 1,000, state and relief officials said. The seatch for more victims continued Friday. Among hundreds of people missing were dozens of fishermen working in the dangerous waters of the Bay of Bengal, a rough sea with high waves.

Relief helicopters carried in food, drinking water, medicine and clothing and searched for the sick and wounded along the coastal stretch of southern India still inundated by rains and sea water. Don Rex ST. GEORGE Donald Smith Rex, 83, passed away on Nov. 8, 1996 in St. George, Utah of natural causes. He was born to Samuel and Elizabeth Rex in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 25, 1913.

Don attended USU in Logan and served an LDS Mission in the Southern States. He has held several positions in the church and served as Bishop of the Georgetown Ward for many years and as an officiator in the Logan Temple. Jury retires in Jenny Jones talk show trial The jury in the "Jenny Jones" murder case began deliberating Friday whether Jonathan Schmitz should be held responsible for shooting a gay man who revealed a crush on him during a taping of the talk show. Scott Amedure, 32, was slain three days after the taping, during which he detailed his sexual fantasies involving Schmitz. Schmitz, a heterosexual, had gone on the show to meet his "secret admirer." The case has focused attention on "ambush" television and titillating daytime talk shows. The defense didn't deny that Schmitz, 26, shot Amedure. He married Mabel Cook in 1936 and they had five children. She preceded him in death as well as three of their children; Verda Irene Miller, Randalee Rex, and Deon Rex. He was preceded in death by his second wife: Clair Pendleton; two brothers: Samuel Wayne Rex; and Dale Brough Rex. He is survived by his loving wife: Ruth Alleman Rex, of St. George, Utah, and Nounan, Idaho; a sister: Barbara Wade of Provo, Utah; two sons: Don Elroyd Rex of Garden City, Utah; and Randy Cook Rex of Georgetown, Idaho.

He has 29 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, 1996, 11 a.m. at the Georgetown Ward Chapel.

Friends may call Tuesday evening, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay Street in Montpelier, Idaho; and Wednesday at the chapel prior to the services. Interment will be in the Randolph, Utah Cemetery, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary. Harvey Crofts KANAB, Utah Harvey Allen Crofts, 85, died Nov. 7, 1996 in the Kane County Hospital in Kanab.

He was born March 25, 1911 to John and Ellen Allen Crofts in Orderville, Utah. He was the youngest in a family of eight children, all of whom are deceased. Married Everetta Heaton Dec. 13, 1933 in Kanab, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St.

George LDS Temple. They are the parents of eight children. Harvey worked in the sawmill business for Crofts Lumber Company in the Cedar Mountain area for ten years. He then completed 27 years of service to the UDOT, District 3. Harvey enjoyed working outdoors, farming, and caring for livestock.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved being in the hills with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest. He is survived by his wife: Everetta of Orderville; children: Thora Crofts of Cedar City, Utah; Lenore (John) Tisdale of Orderville; Bernell (Linda) Crofts of Orderville; LaRue (Gene) Slaugh, San Diego, California; Loretta Johnson of Fredonia, Randy Crofts of Southhaven, Verlene Ayers of Las Vegas, arid Julie Ford of Escalante, Utah; 23 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: Harvey Heaton Crofts; and John Dexter Crofts; son-in-law: Jared Johnson; and daughter-in-law: Pat Crofts.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 11, 1996 in the Orderville Chapel at 11a.m. Friends may call at the Chapel from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and at Mosdell Mortuary Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Burial will be in the Orderville Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. Iva Lu Carter NAPA, California Iva Lu Carter passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996 at her Napa home after a yearlong, courageous battle with cancer. Lu was born in Kanab, Utah on Oct. 13, 1923 to LaMar and Florian Watson Johnson.

She attended schools in Kanab, graduated from Dixie College in St. George, Utah and also attended the University of Vermont and Fresno State College. She married Lt. Lawrence (Larry) William Carter at Camp Sibert, Alabama on Jan. 13, 1945.

They moved to Napa in 1946 when Larry was made head of the chemistry department at Napa College. He taught there until his death in 1968. Lu worked as Administrative Assistant to State Assemblyman Pearce Young for four years. Since 1970, she has been employed by NVUSD as the principal's secretary at Ridgeview Jr. High and then Silverado Middle, School untit her retire-, ment this fall after 26 years' o'f "service.

While In Napa, she has been very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was a member of the Napa First Ward for 51 years. She held many positions in the church including Secretary to the Stake President for 25 years and later served as the President of the Young Women's Organization and Finance Secretary. Lu also was a volunteer for the Napa Suicide Prevention Hotline for several years. She took great enjoyment in simply spending time with her family well as gardening, swimming, and walking. She traveled extensively, including seven trips to European countries; China, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and all fifty states.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Cindy Lu and Mark Woolley of South Jordan, Utah; son: Crane William Carter of Napa; three grandchildren: Wendy Lu; David; and Heidi Lu; all of South Jordan; sister: Afton Cram; brother and sister-in-law Sylvan and Farris Johnson; all of Kanab, Utah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 11, 1996 at the Napa First Ward Chapel, 15 Chapel Hill Napa, California. Friends may call at Treadway and Wigger Funeral Chapel on Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., and at the church Monday from 9:30 a.m.

I I Uu hill Guy Murdoch ST. GEORGE Guy Garrett Murdoch died Nov. 7, 1996 in the Dixie Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 5, 1918 in Farnum, Fremont County, Idaho, the son of Robert Rue and Mearl G.

Murdoch. He married Faye Tanner on April 9, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of two daughters and four sons. He graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, Utah and attended Idaho State University.

He was always proud of his 30 year career at Hill Air Force Base. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Several of the positions he held were Bishop, High Councilman, Stake Executive 'Secretary, Temple Officiator, and Home Teacher. Civic activities has involved him in city planning and recreation and a variety of Lion's Club positions and projects. He loved and enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sports enthusiast.

He will always be remembered for his loving service to his friends and neighbors. He found no greater happiness than from spending time with his children and grandchildren, and sharing their experiences. Surviving him in death are his wife: Faye; and his six children: Diane (Bruce) May of Boseman, MT; Pamela (David) Vaughn of Boise, ID; Robert (Linda) Murdoch of Nibley, Utah; Paul (Becky) Murdoch of Mukilteo, Kent (Kathy) Murdoch of Poway, and Michael (Vickie) Murdoch of Cedar City, Utah.
