IT Br erMs i mm- Investigators say deadly fire was set on purpose Associated Press Bennett fails in bid to delay court-martial Associated Press LAS VEGAS Attempts by embattled U.S. Marine Arthur Bennett to postpone his court-martial or move it to a military base have failed. Bennett is charged with faking his own death and deserting the Marine Corps to avoid a 1994 court-martial on sexual misconduct charges involving an ex-wife, his daughters and other young girls in Okinawa, Japan, and Yuma, Ariz. The court martial will go forward July 12 in the Clark County Courthouse.

Bennett is also scheduled to face a murder trial here Feb. 7 after allegedly faking his own death. Deputy Peggy Faulkner said the woman's feet and hands were bound. She said authorities will not be able to tell whether Omer was unconscious before the house was set on fire until the medical examiner releases a report. Two separate fires were burning in the home one on the second floor, one on the lower level.

Investigators have determined the fires were started separately and probably with some kind of accelerant like gasoline. "As we would hit it with the water stream, the flames would jump right back up, which is an indication of an accelerant," Salt Lake Fire Capt. Bill Brass said. Detectives have no clear suspects, but are working on several leads. TAYLORSVILLE A fire that killed a local actress was deliberately set, say authorities who are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The body of Danielle Cmier. a well-known local actress, was found in a downstairs bedroom of herTaylorsville home Monday after the fire was extinguished. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office said details of the scene indicate the woman may not have died in the fire, but would not say what the evidence was. An autopsy was being conducted Tuesday to determine the cause of death and to positively identify Omen said homicide Sgt. Jerry Townsend.

"I cannot feel safe until I know he admits he has done wrong. And I am afraid for the other members of my family." Part of that family was in the courtroom; Kingston brought his legal wife, Rachel Ann Brown Kingston, and a dozen children to the proceedings.

Dressed in their Sunday best, they filled one end of the first row while the renegade daughter perched tearfully at the other. Between sat members of the anti-polygamy group Tapestry of Polygamy, including Rowenna Erickson, a former wife within the Kingston clan and a cousin of John Daniel Kingston. M.K.'s accusations focused unwanted attention on the Kingston family, which has built an estimated $150 million business empire in six western states. Authorities figure the group, calling itself the Latter Day Church of God, has about 800 members and owns land and businesses in Utah, Idaho, California, Arizona. Nevada and Colorado.

In exchange, she also asked for an apology from the man she calls "Daniel" instead of "Dad." On Tuesday, both she and 1st District Judge Ben Hadfield said she hadn't gotten one. Kingston did say in court that the trial has been a "growing experience." "I do want to help (my daughter) go on with her life and be the good person I know she can be," he said, without looking at her. "And I'm sorry for any pain and suffering I might have caused her or anyone else." But neither Kingston nor defense attorney Ron Yengich admitted the whipping ever occurred. That didn't sit well with the judge, who said he might consider shortening the jail time if Kingston takes responsibility and makes "a complete and satisfactory apology to the victim." "I am sure you understand I am not happy with it at this time," Hadfield said. On Tuesday, the purported polygamist was ordered to spend 28 weeks in jail. But Kingston's daughter, who dragged Utah's polygamy subculture into the spotlight when she accused her father of marrying her to her uncle and then beating her when she fled, said she still fears revenge. Kingston, 43, was sentenced to serve the jail time, pay $2,700 in fines and an unspecified sum in restitution, and to complete an anger-management program.
