GEORGE A former Utah Highway Patrol trooper charged with aggravated child sexual abuse will appear for a iicai nig 'pw4 si of the evi- sible plea agreement with the prosecution in order to avoid having witnesses testify at a preliminary hearing. Deputy County Attorney Brian Filter asked that the hearing be scheduled anyway and Walton set a Feb. 13 court date to hear the evidence. "Mr. Davis has been in jail a long time," Filter said.

"I would really like to see the case go forward, one way or the other." Davis was first arrested in November after he was allegedly observed touching a young girl, over whom he occupied a relationship of trust, in a sexual manner. The girl afterward stated she had been touched sexually numerous times over a period of three years, according to arrest information filed with 5th District Court. Davis was hospitalized briefly in Dixie Regional Medical Center's behavioral unit for treatment after he allegedly threatened to harm himself, according to the report. Last month, a Washington City Police detective reported that while investigating the allegations, he learned a different girl, younger than 14, had told her father that Davis exposed himself to her on two occasions. Davis has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He left the UHP in 2004, but the agency has not commented on the reason for Davis' departure, citing personnel policy.
