Olympic organizers are going after corporate sponsors as well as donors to make up the difference. The cuts will be proposed in a management committee meeting Thursday but not voted on until September. The new budget would be $1.34 billion. "We're confident we're not going to be leaving unpaid bills for taxpayers or anyone else." Romney said at a press conference Wednesday. "We're back on track." Parole board leaves little hope for Hansen parole POINT OF THE MOUNTAIN drastic than $84 million in cuts Romney proposed after just a few weeks on the job last spring'stem from a dollar-by-dollar analysis of the budget, Bullock said.

He joined the SLOC in April and also serves as its chief financial officer. The idea, Bullock said. was to slice out of the budget everything not necessary to putting on great games for the athletes and leaving a legacy for Utah's youth. SLOC's managers actually are proposing $169 million in cuts. but $56 million of those are offset by added costs.

Most of that was mistakes in the original budget written last year. but it also includes unforeseen expenses like $5 million in legal expenses because of the U.S. Justice Department's investigation of Salt Lake's bid committee. Executives of the bid committee, the predecessor to the SLOC, have been accused of spending lavishly on International Olympic Committee members during the city's quest for the games, sparking scandal and now reform in the Olympic world. The Justice Department has been investigating for more than seven months but has not brought criminal chaiges The executives also have tagged $72 million of the $113 million in proposed cuts as expenses they'd like to restore if the money can be children; three brothers: David Lee (Patricia) Bradbury of Payson, Ralph Leland (Ida May) Bradbury of Phoenix, and Albert Henry (Dean) Bradbury of Phoenix; mother-in-law: Pearl Justet of Springdale.

The proposed cutbacks are diverse. There would be no information booths for spectators unless some group in the community steps forward. and the SLOC would spend $5 million less on opening. closing and other ceremonies. The SLOC would cut 3 million out of its budget for housing games officials, including a portion of IOC members' rooms, and $300,000 out of the opening IOC session before the games.
