Dewey Hawkins Jr. CEDAR CITY Our wonderful father, Dewey, fought the good fight and quietly went home to once again embrace our Lord. Dewey was born October 26, 1923 in Crothersville, Indiana. The oldest of four son's born to Dewey Hawkins, Sr. and Amanda Leona Hawkins. Dewey lived during the Great Depression and worked as a paper boy to help support the family. He graduated from Crothersville High School with the highest I.Q. score ever recorded even to this day. After getting an appointment to go to West Point, he could not afford to go, so he joined the Army in 1948 and fought in Korea. He was promoted to staff sergeant where he remained in Korea until his tour of duty was up in 1 951 . Dewey was so proud to be an American and displayed a flag in his window all year. After returning from war, he met the love of his life Gerrie Banks. After a short courtship, they were married 40 years until she passed away in 1992. Dewey was a businessman, working in California for Bendix Corporation and was President of his union for several years. He owned and operated Dewey's Dirier in Milford for many years. He also sold real estate and managed apartment buildings, and was a jack of all trades. Dewey was especially especially proud of his family and loved them very much. He had a gift for gab, talking your leg off if getting caught in the Post Office! He was preceded in death by Can-.
